On a holiday on an isolated island near Tasmania I was asked to draw an old boot. I had never done it before. The old boot turned out so well – all wrinkled leather and gaping sole. I was stunned. So, initially as a means of relaxation, I became interested in art – or rather painting. I started going to weekly painting classes in Perth in 2005. I self-taught by painting after work and found I could experiment, combine ideas and succeed. My confidence has since grown to produce my own impressionistic style of abstract figurative work.
I now run an arts practice from Maleny in Queensland painting original works for pleasure and exhibition. I undertake commissions when there is a good fit with the client’s objectives. I am increasingly represented in art exhibitions and competitions. I was very excited to curate my first solo art exhibition Lost and Found Women 1 in May 2009 at the Percolator Galley in Brisbane. This exhibition represented the culmination of my skills and a huge personal leap from environmental scientist to artist. In 2010, I aim to exhibit in the Australia’s best known art competition for portrait painters The Archibald.
I trust you will enjoy my gallery.
